JEANNE BARET

JEANNE is a 16’3” cat ketch with a snug cuddy convertible top designed and built by Ed Foster of Northern California circa 2012. She spent a decade abandoned and unmaintained by a careless owner.  My wife acquired her in 2024 and we began the process of bringing her back to life.  My part was mostly the rigging; using some lovely little blocks made by Endre Merck, I stropped & reeved them all with hemp line & added some fancywork touches. In the next year or so, we will sew up a new suit of sails for her…possibly out of flax linen.  JEANNE is named for the first woman to circumnavigate the globe, back in the 1760’s with the Bougainville expedition—disguised as a man.

JEANNE is a member of Master Mariners Benevolent Association surpassing the minimum required length by 3”. So keep a look out for her at the annual boat show & other SF Bay Area wooden boating events.
