The friendship of Salem is a replica of a 1797 American ship built for Waite and Peirce, Salem merchants, for the Chinese trade. The replica was built in the late 1990s for the national park service and Salem Maritime national historical Park. Her laminated construction has caused some issues over the years and she has been down rigged since 2014 while repairs to the hull have been made. This year being the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, the Park service is highly encouraged to begin the process of up rigging. I have been going through the pallets of rigging and identifying what is what; scraping, sanding, and oiling wooden deadeyes and fairleads; and replacing worn seizings and service, as well as developing a spreadsheet of length and diameter of all rigging used on the ship.
