Sir Francis Drake’s flagship replica sailed to Florida in 1988, when I was first starting out working on sailing ships. I went aboard as a tourist, not knowing I would follow in Drake’s wake throughout my life, in such places as St. Augustine, Roanoke Colony, Marin County California, & London. I was brought to London to oversee pulling the masts & renewing the rigging for the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012. The sense of history, working on this ship on the River Thames, in Bankside Southwark, for another Queen Elizabeth, was exhilarating!
