AVE MARIA was the name of a schooner in the Hulu television series Washington Black and based on the Canadian fishing schooner BLUENOSE. The set was built in an old rock quarry in Mexico City in 2023. I worked with the Art Department, Construction, & Special Effects to replicate BLUENOSE’s rigging. I consulted on the design & engineering of the structure for supporting the masts & rigging. We seized deadeyes into the shrouds, made LOTS of baggy wrinkle, & rigged the sails to be set and doused.
